Summer Art Camps
at Dancing Paintbrush Studio
Each week of Summer Camp will have a theme in which we will explore materials, techniques, and historical references as jumping off points to nurture each child’s creativity. There will be a balance between group activities, and solo one-on-one instruction for each student, to dovetail with their particular interests. There will be a show of students work at the end of each week.
1. DRAW We will explore charcoal, oil pastel, pencil, colored pencil, and graphite on a variety of different types of paper. Shading, form, contour, value, and color techniques will be introduced and each student will have time to explore their favorite medium using their own subject matter.
2. PAINT: We have 22 beautiful colors of pre-mixed non-toxic liquid tempera paint and as much high quality acid free paper .as each student needs. We will explore a variety of exercises designed to expand the use of materials and techniques, including wet-on-wet, color mixing, all prima and we’ll include art historical references.
3. ANIMALS: Basic proportions and shapes of animal bodies, with an emphasis on the gesture of the animal’s movement in its natural habitat. Animal photos and paintings of animals from art history will serve to inspire us.
4. COLLAGE: Using a paper ground, we will create our collages by adding various materials including magazine cuttings, fabric, paint, oil pastels and more. Acid free paper and glues ensure beautiful long-lasting results.
5. STILL LIFE: Traditional still life paintings and drawings will serve as the basis for our exploration of this genre, with still life set-ups, and students may bring their own objects to draw solo, or contribute to a group still life set-up.
6. LANDSCAPE: Traditional still life paintings and drawings will serve as the basis for our exploration of this genre, with still life set-ups, and students may bring their own objects to draw solo, or contribute to a group still life set-up.
7. FAMOUS ARTISTS: We’ll use a large collection of postcards and artist monographs to learn about well-known artists, and learn the techniques and materials they used to obtain the effects seen in their paintings. Learning to paint in the style of their favorite artist will be encouraged.
